If you live in North Somerset and South West Wiltshire and are a lover of wild plants, then these foraging courses in Bath are great introductory foraging taster days. Here is a perfect place to learn about the arts and crafts of foraging wild food and hedgerow medicine.

Foraging provides you with some of the most nutritionally loaded plants that it is possible to get your hands on. As well as this, it’s often the freshest food you will eat; locally sourced, and without question, beyond organics.

I offer regular, foraging courses in the Bath and Bradford-on-Avon area during 2018, where you can meet and explore more than 20 edible plants and discover a smattering of top-draw hedgerow first-aid medicines.

If you are wanting to know which plants are in season right now, all you have to do is visit my seasonal wild food guide.

What to expect on this foraging course in Bath..?

A short circular walk, usually accessible by all, on which the plants are the stars. (Please contact me with any acessibility issues). We won’t ever have to walk very far on my foraging courses in Bath because there are always so many plants of interest to discuss, no matter which season we’re in!

Legal and safety issues are always discussed before embarking, as are the ‘golden rules of foraging’ so that you can begin foraging confidently and safely.

On these fun and informative foraging courses, I like to explore plant identification using all the senses. I like to think of this as ‘full sensual foraging’. My reasoning is that we almost always encounter plants with all of our senses, so why not engage with plants with all of them?  It is through our sense of touch, smell, sight, the occasional taste, and even our sense of sound, that really helps us know a plant.

I also use the brilliant ‘plant patterns method’ to identify plants, which is available to read here. This easy-to-remember and quick-to-learn system can revolutionise your plant identification skills!

During my  walks and courses, you will be show that there is so much more to a plant than its names and uses. Plants have many stories to tell.  Almost every culture on the planet weaves myth, legend and folklore around the plants they live with.  It’s part of what makes us human. I love to share these collective plant memories with as many people as possible on my foraging courses in Bath, together with other snippets of relevant historical and local information.

So in a nutshell, expect lots of  plant I/D tips and foraging hacks from your experienced guide Chris; a few seasonal wild food treats for you to taste; and to walk away with a new found love of the ancient hunter-gathering skills of foraging wild foods.
