Somerset foraging courses

Upcoming Somerset Foraging Courses

Unearth the wild food and medicine treasure in the land of Avalon on these Somerset foraging courses. Discover more about the wild plants that are woven into our food culture, medicinal practice, and ancestral memories of Somerset.

With my roots in Somerset, I love to come back here hosting  walks and courses. On these introductory walks you will learn how to identify plants through using all your senses, and through full engagement with the plants. Botany  and plant identification help can always be referenced, but being present with plants means that you have to grasp the nettle.

It is likely you will meet around 20-25 species on any given walk, learning the plant family patterns as you go. We will discuss the history, folklore and uses of the plants we encounter. A general guide to harvesting the various plant parts will be presented, and I always cover the legal and safety issues before setting off! Many of the plant species we find will  also feature as one of  my regular hedgerow pickings.
